Sam Green Decoys

Sam Green makes and sells canvas-backed decoys. “People on the Outer Banks used just about anything, from a burlap sack to an old bed sheet, for these decoys and they worked just as well as the ones made of wood. When plastic came along, canvas decoys all but disappeared,” he says.

Green also demonstrates the art of painting decoys at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras.
